Sheffield FC announce retention list

Last season’s top scorer Marc Newsham is one of nine players to have committed their immediate future to the club.

Ryan Cresswell’s side will be keen to build upon last season’s 17th-placed finish, as they won just eight of their 36 league matches and narrowly avoided relegation.

On their retentions, Sheffield boss Ryan Cresswell said: “We thank the lads who have left for their services and wish them all the best.

“The lads that have stayed have a winning mentality that we need moving forward, and also fit in alongside the new members of the squad.”

In other news, Sheffield have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Ilkeston Town centre-back Joe Maguire.

The 30-year-old had been at the Robins since January 2020 but will now embark on a new challenge further north.

“I’ve seen the plans for the new stadium and I am glad to be part of an exciting chapter in the club's history,” he said. “I’m born and bred in Sheffield, so playing for this club means a lot.”
