Silverlands honour for Bucks legend

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League leaders Buxton renamed the boardroom at Silverlands after their record appearance holder David Bainbridge on Saturday before kicking off against Whitby Town.

The Bucks paid tribute to the club legend before beating the Seasiders 3-0 in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight at the ground where he's played for a remarkable 30 years when his appearances as a veteran are taken into account.

In total, local boy 'Bammer' made 642 appearances for the Bucks in two spells between 1982 and 2006. During the closing weeks of the 2001-2002 season he performed admirably as a player-manager, steering the Bucks away from relegation with three wins and three draws in eight matches after stepping up following the resignation of former manager Mark Smith.

Pictured being interviewed by Buxton vice-chairman Tony Tomlinson at the naming ceremony on Saturday, Bainbridge's roots at Silverlands run deep. His late father John also played for Buxton before serving on both the club's committee and board while his mum Doreen looks after the boardroom and the club's guests on matchdays. Unsurprisingly, the stalwart's son Nick is a member of the Bucks development squad.
