Skipper stands down to recharge

Tadcaster Albion skipper Jimmy Beadle is taking a break from the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League to recharge his footballing batteries.

The goal-scoring former York City, Whitby Town and Scarborough Town midfielder is taking a complete break from the game after leading the club to the Northern Counties East League championship in April, pictured, and promotion to EVO-STIK NPL First Division North.

The 28-year-old self-employed miner starts work in the early hours of the morning and told manager Billy Miller over the weekend that he is struggling to cope with the significant travel time he faces from his Scarborough home for training and games after suffering a recent back injury.

Miller backed the decision of Beadle who scored 22 goals last season and was instrumental in his side's success.

Miller said: "I fully understand and support Jimmy's decision. He was one of my best ever signings, massively influential in our triumph last year. His commitment and attitude have been second to none and we all wish him well for the future."

Tadcaster Albion chairman Matt Gore expressed his regret over Beadle's departure and paid tribute to their outgoing skipper in a club statement on Monday.

"This has really come out of the blue and quite a shock but we fully understand his situation. I had a long chat with Jimmy during the week and he is a true gent," said Gore. "He has been unbelievable for the club and a brilliant captain and his goals will live long in the memory and go down in the club's history."

He added: "Who knows what the future will hold and one day we may see him return. No doubt there will be huge interest for him to sign for clubs more local should he decide that is right."

Explaining his decision, Beadle said: "Thanks to everyone involved with Tadcaster. It has been an unbelievable fifteen months with the club and I'm so grateful for the opportunity and honoured to be captain. There's an amazing spirit within the club and I'm sure it's just going to go from strength to strength.

"It's with great regret that I'm leaving as I'm just struggling to make the commitment the club deserves. I wish the club all the best for the future and hope they continue to climb the leagues."
