Snow easy for super fans!

FC United of Manchester

It’s often said that FC United of Manchester fans are like a 12th man to the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League club, writes Andy Walker.

On Sunday they proved it again by ensuring Karl Marginson's side banked three points from a 2-1 home win over Nantwich Town thanks to their herculean efforts to clear snow from Stalybridge Celtic's Bower Fold, pictured.

Proud club officials say their supporters swung into action following a morning ground inspection by match officials that had left the fixture in doubt. After putting out the call to fans on the club's website and via social media to help clear the pitch, terraces and car parks of overnight snow, well over 100 turned up by midday armed with brushes and shovels.

According to the Premier Division club's general manager Andy Walsh, the response was amazing with so many ignoring the freezing weather to help with the clean-up and later received a round of applause from fellow supporters and match officials for their efforts.

Walsh said: "It was a great sight as people of all ages turned up from just before 12 noon with shovels and brushes ready to get stuck in. It was inspiring to see, as people swarmed over the pitch shifting the snow to get the game on. We even had children with their mams and dads helping out as well.

"When the match referee turned up he asked for the pitch to be cleared of snow and that was the cue for even more activity as FC United members and supporters swung into action to make sure that the pitch was in the best condition it could be for the game."
