Son pays tribute to Mrs Halesowen

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Halesowen Town have published an amazing tribute to the wife of late club legend Harry Rudge.

Margaret Rudge, who passed away peacefully earlier this week aged 89, is credited with being one of the Premier Division club's greatest fans for the support she gave her late husband before his untimely death in 1990.

Affectionately known as ‘Mr Halesowen Town’, Harry Rudge filled almost every role at the Yeltz to keep them going in the 1970s and a stand at The Grove was later named in his honour.

The mother-of-three is pictured with her son Stephen who penned the article chronicling the support, albeit invisibly at times, that she gave her husband during more than 40 years of marriage, on the club's official website.

Writing on behalf of his brother David and sister Janet in the club's latest matchday progamme, he also thanks supporters and others in football who've contacted the family with their condolences.

He wrote: "It has been a humbling, yet hugely comforting experience to have received an overwhelming number of condolence messages from people connected to the club. It is a loud soundbite that Halesowen supporters knew all along, Harry and Margaret's work for the club was a partnership. Simply put, without Mom, Dad could not have done what he did for the club.

"For now though, Halesowen's loss is Heaven's gain. Thank you and God bless you all for your lovely messages, and for remembering Mom and affording the family the opportunity to put this piece in the programme. 'H' and Margo are together again, probably arguing over how much time Dad spent at the ground, but no doubt preparing the pitch and washing the kit for Heaven United FC!"
