Keeper Lewis Gwilliams has thanked everybody at EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Sutton Coldfield Town for their support since he was stabbed at a city centre pub.

The Royals keeper, pictured, has told team-mates and staff at the First Division South club that he was lucky to escape with his life after suffering stab injuries along with two other men.

The 22-year-old had been enjoying a night out with friends in Highgate on Sunday October 5 when he was attacked and stabbed twice outside the Adam and Eve pub. According to doctors, the club's first team keeper was lucky the injuries missed vital organs and he is now on the mend.

In a tweet to his team-mates who've been showing support online he said: "Thanks boys, appreciate it. Hopefully be back sooner rather than later."

Royals manager Neil Tooth said: "Lewis has been very lucky. The main thing is he’s home and he just needs to rest and recuperate. All of the players have got in touch, he’s a good lad, a really bubbly character. We all wish him the best in his recovery."

A 22-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent and affray and will appear at Birmingham Crown Court in January.
