Spalding United appoint manager for new season

Spalding United have announced the appointment of Elliot Sandy as their new manager for the 2023-24 season.

Sandy took caretaker charge back in March, after Brett Whaley left the club back in March.

During that time, he helped them to third place and the play-offs. They were also just three points off Halesowen Town in second place.

They travelled to the Yeltz for the play-off final on Saturday, and had looked on course to win thanks to Nathan Stainfield’s goal. But a 90th minute equaliser from Kierien Donnelly, and then an extra time goal from Jamie Insall won it for Halesowen and won them promotion to Step 3.

Despite that disappointment, the Tulips have decided to stick with Sandy on a permanent basis.

A statement on the club’s social media says: “Elliot took over the role on a caretaker basis towards the end of last season, and following a review of all applicants and a number of meetings, the chairman and board of directors have unanimously decided that Elliot and his team are the right people to carry on the clubs progress on the field on a permanent basis.

“Everyone at the club would like to congratulate @SandyBoi1 (Sandy) on his new role and look forward to supporting him fully as we prepare for the new season.”
