Spartans duo on standby for England

By David Watters

England C manager Paul Fairclough has put two more EVO-STIK Northern Premier League players on standby to join his latest international squad.

Blyth Spartans pair Matthew Wade and Andrew Cartwright have been named on the list of reserves for the three day England training camp Fairclough is holding at Warwick University from Sunday 27 September to Tuesday 29 September.

After vowing to include more players from outside the Football Conference in his set-up while presenting the accolades at the 2015 EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Player of the Year Awards in April, the England boss quickly made good on his promise by including former Blyth winger Jarrett Rivers, Ilkeston FC' Callum Chettle and last season's top flight golden boot, Rushall Olympic's Aaron Williams, in his Three Lions that beat the Republic of Ireland in the International Challenge Trophy in Waterford in May.

Central midfielder Wade, the 23-year-old son of manager Tom Wade at the Premier Division leaders, heard the news of his inclusion after making his 100th appearance for Spartans in Saturday's 3-0 reverse for the leaders at Stourbridge. Former Sunderland right-back Cartwright, 20, made his debut for Spartans in their 1-0 win at Salford City on Tuesday 8 September.
