Star turn for record-breaking legend

Chasetown's stars from past and present have been turning out to pay tribute to the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League club's record appearance holder Chris Slater.

Pictured coming out at Church Lane for his testimonial on Sunday, the Scholars legend was honoured after changing his mind about leaving at the end of last term and returning to the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club in August.

The defender – who earned a spell at Port Vale in the Football League after being part of the historic Scholars side which reached the third round of the FA Cup in 2008 – wrote his name into the club's history books last season when he beat Andy Cox’s record of 535 appearances in March.

Players past and present, including Charlie Blakemore, Dave Egan and Gary Birch, are pictured rolling back the years at The Scholars Ground for Slater who made his debut for his hometown club back in 2005.

Before breaking Cox's record last season, the 32-year-old told fans: “I’m just a lad from Chasetown who wants to play football for the local team – and I’ll continue to do that for as long as they need me!"
