Power failure behind abandonment

By David Watters

A breakdown in local power supplies was being blamed for the abandonment of at least one of two games called off in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League on Tuesday night.

Market Drayton Town and Newcastle Town fans headed home with vouchers to see a rearranged fixture after the lights at the Greenfields Sports Ground went out 15 minutes into their EVO-STIK NPL First Division South clash.

Officials at Market Drayton say Western Power told them a problem with supplies to a new housing estate nearby was to blame after they spent nearly an hour checking their lights for faults with the match suspended at 1-1.

In the EVO-STIK NPL's Premier Division, Ilkeston FC were losing 2-1 at home to Hednesford Town when the floodlights failed at the New Manor Ground with just three minutes to go.

The dates for the rearranged games will be published in due course on the fixtures pages under the 'match info' tab.
