Step 4 round-up | Monday 28 August

Recap the latest action from Step 4 of the Northern Premier League…

In the NPL East Division, Hebburn Town maintained their 100% winning start after a 1-0 victory at Dunston.

Amar Purewal's goal shortly after the hour mark proved enough for all three points as the Hornets backed up their impressive 4-1 victory over Winterton Rangers on Saturday.

Belper Town and Carlton Town remain hot on their heels after securing maximum points on their travels.

The Nailers produced a stunning late fightback, scoring two goals in second half stoppage time to win 3-2 at Grantham Town.

One of the other highlights of the round came at the Home of Football Stadium, where Sheffield recovered from 2-0 down midway through the first half to win 4-2 against Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Spalding United lead the way in the NPL Midlands Division, after they made it four wins from four away at Cambridge City.

The Tulips have conceded just once all season and look strong early-season contenders to challenge for promotion once more following their heart-breaking play-off final defeat at Halesowen Town in 2022/23.

Sporting Khalsa trail them on goal difference after falling to their first defeat of the season away at Boldmere St Michaels, who had won just one of their opening four matches going into Monday's encounter.

The highest-scoring game in the division came at the Dovecote Stadium, where Shepshed Dynamo and Loughoborough Dynamo played out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Dynamo led twice but were pegged back and forced to rescue an equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time, courtesy of George Ball.

The NPL West Division was an equally entertaining affair, with Kidsgrove Athletic continuing to make the early-season running after a 4-2 win at Leek Town.

The Grove, free-scoring in the early weeks of the season, came from 2-1 down to take home the points, in what proved to be Neil Baker's final game in charge of the hosts.

They sit four points clear of nearest challengers Chasetown, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Hednesford Town.

Other notable results from the round included Runcorn Linnets' entertaining 4-2 win at home to Witton Albion, with Eden Gumbs finding himself on the scoresheet twice.

Ben Holmes was also at the double for Vauxhall Motors as they edged City of Liverpool 3-2 in a topsy-turvy game at the vanEupen Arena - picking up their first win of the season in the process.
