Stevens swoops for Robins skipper

Grantham Town have snapped up former Ilkeston FC skipper Matt Baker for the 2017-18 EVO-STIK Northern Premier League season.

Gingerbreads boss Adam Stevens has told the club's fans he has added another leader after signing the defender from the crisis-hit Robins on a one year contract.

Baker, who made more than 100 appearances at the New Manor Ground club, is now training with the rest of the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club's squad after they returned for pre-season training on Monday.

Danny Meadows and Jeremiah Dasaolu were among more than 20 players with Baker at the Meres after both were rewarded for the efforts last season with one year contracts.

Stevens said "Matt's season with Ilkeston was tough for him but his qualities stood out. He's a leader and a great talker. Alongside Stefan [Galinski] they'll be organising those around them.”

Officials at the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club have also been boosted by news that sponsors Streets Chartered Accounts have renewed their partnership for the upcoming season.
