Stoke stars heading to Blues

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Leek Town are getting ready to host Stoke City's upcoming stars in the new Premier League 2 when the 2016-17 season kicks off.

Despite coming to an agreement with the Premier League giants for their U23s to play the majority of their games at Harrison Park several months ago, the news was only announced this week after the Premier League ratified the new league system for younger players.

The Blues home passed a stringent stadium inspection with flying colours before getting the green light for Stoke to return to play in Staffordshire.

Delighted Leek Town chairman Jon Eeles said: "This is a further significant achievement for the club and builds on the success of hosting the recent UEFA U17 s internationals.

“I would personally like to thank SCFC chief executive Tony Scholes and technical director Mark Cartwright, a former Blues player and manager, for this opportunity and the confidence they have shown in the pitch, our facilities and the operational team at Leek Town.

“These games will provide additional exposure for the club as well as introducing some new fans to Harrison Park. Having struck the deal with Stoke the hard work for club officials and all those connected with this project now begins."

The Blues are now looking to recruit new matchday volunteers as a result of the agreement which will also see season ticket holders at the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club admitted to the Stoke fixtures for free.

Eeles added: “We have a very capable and focused team on matchdays but we need to increase our volunteer base to ensure we maintain the high standards we have set with regard to hosting matches.”
