Thaw defrosts loan deals

Grantham Town

Grantham Town's Gio Carchedi and Sam Purcicoe finally went out on loan on Tuesday following the end of the arctic weather.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Gingerbreads have sent forward Carchedi to Lincoln United and defender Purcicoe to Rainworth Miners Welfare to boost their match fitness after weeks of inaction.

The pair, Carchedi is pictured left, should have joined the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South sides weeks ago but stayed put following the onset of nearly three weeks of snow and ice.

Gingerbreads joint manager Gary Sucharewycz said: "Both need to get a few games in to give them match sharpness. We had everything set up a few weeks ago but there was no point in making it happen until the bad weather had cleared."

Carchedi, 29, began his career at Grimsby before joining his local club Lincoln United following a spell with Armthorpe Welfare. He joined the Gingerbreads in the summer of 2009 and has made more than 100 appearances. Purcicoe, 21, joined Grantham in January 2010 from Mansfield and was previously with Notts County.
