The Seadogs to return to Scarborough after 10 year exile

On 21 April 2007 Scarborough FC played Leigh RMI in a game that ended 1-1, in what was the Blue Square Conference North, at their Seamer Road ground. Just two months later the club was wound up.

History shows that the supporters group, The Seadog Trust, were instrumental in forming Scarborough Athletic and the team took their place in the NCEL First Division in 2007/08. However, despite the fans having a team to watch, they had had no ground and had to take up a ground-share over 30 miles away at Queensgate, home of Bridlington Town.

During their tenure in Bridlington, the Seadogs won the NCEL First Division in 2008/09 and then took the NCEL Premier Division title in 2012/13 to take their place in the EVO-STIK NPL for the 2013/14 campaign. Last season they made the First Division North Play-offs, but lost out to Ossett Town in the Semi-Final in what turned out to be Scarborough’s last game at Queensgate.

Now as the club look to continue their rise back through the divisions, Scarborough will return to the town of their formation and take up residence in the purpose-built 2,000 capacity, Flamingo Land Stadium, part of the Scarborough Leisure Village.

The game on Saturday against Sheffield United is a sell-out as the Seadogs begin a new chapter in their history in what is bound to be an emotional occasion, not only because of the teams return to the town, but that Dave Holland who was such a driving force in getting the new ground built, sadly passed away in February and won’t be there to witness his dream come to fruition.
