Tigers silence Lambs

Worksop Town update, by Ray Lucas

Worksop Town gained a place in the 2nd Round Proper of this seasons FA Trophy after a fine victory over Blue Square Premier League side Tamworth FC on Saturday.

In an exciting encounter, the only goal of the game was scored by Ashley Burbeary on 62 minutes.

A lot of credit for the win must go to manager Simon Clark and his assistant Dave Frecklington for getting the tactics spot on. They changed to a 5-4-1 formation that stopped the visitors dominating midfield and gave the Tigers room to express themselves.

The reward is another home tie against Newport County from the Blue Square Premier on the 14th January, following their replay victory over Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday night. If FGR had won, an interesting fact would have seen the Tigers face them 10 years after their last encounter in the same competition when the Tigers had beaten Tamworth in the previous round then.

On the injury front Josh Davies had an operation on his damaged cruciate ligament on Sunday. The midfielder joined the Tigers in the summer from Gainsborough Trinity but got injured in the pre-season friendly at Ossett Albion.

Also still recovering from the same injury is full back Scott Wharton who had an operation in August. It is hoped both will be available for the start of the 2012/13 season.
