Trafford mourn loss of club stalwart

Trafford FC are mourning the loss of club president and co-founder David Brown, who has passed away at at the age of 75.

Last year, David received an award from the Football Association to mark his 50 years of service in club administration.

A club statement said: "It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Club President David Brown.

"David was a well-known figure in non-league football and it was only last year that he received a long service award from the Football Association for fifty years in club administration.

"David was a founder member of Trafford Football Club back in 1990 and was instrumental in the club’s rapid rise up the football pyramid to its current position in the Northern Premier League.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Joan, his children Matthew, Nick and Lucy, his other loving family members, and his many friends."

David began his journey in grassroots football back in the early 1970s with Old Urmstonians in the Lancashire and Cheshire League both as a player and member of the committee.

He then moved to Flixton Football Club in 1985 before becoming a founder member of Trafford Football Club, formerly known as North Trafford, in 1990.

Initially, David was Vice-Chairman and Football Secretary at the Urmston based club but he then became Chairman and was a driving force in the club’s development of their Shawe View ground and their subsequent meteoric rise up the non-league pyramid.

In 2000 David moved house to the North Lancashire area and relinquished his Chairman’s position but still made the journey down to Urmston several times each week.

And for his magnificent contribution towards the development of the club he was made President.

Everyone at the Northern Premier League extends their condolences to David’s family, friends and colleagues at Trafford.
