When EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Nantwich Town kicked off against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night in the Cheshire Senior Cup, fans were cheering on one of their own directing operations alongside manager Danny Johnson.

To raise funds for the Premier Division's Dabbers, supporter Carl Thorpe was living the dream for the visit of the League Two outfit in the home technical area after outbidding his fellow fans in an impromptu club auction at a race night in November.

Johnson, who announced his new partner for one night only at the Weaver Stadium in the club's last matchday programme against Workington, came up with the idea for the auction which was won by the 29-year-old, who is also the treasurer of the club's supporters group, the NTISA, with a bid of £135.

According to the fan who works in finance at Mobilise Telcoms and is a part-qualified CIMA accountant, it was definitely money well spent.

Speaking ahead of the match, he said: "Anyone who knows me know that I have always wanted to manage a football team and I have been laughed at. So to have this opportunity is an absolute once in a life time chance and you have got to grab it when it comes your way."
