Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North

Skelmersdale United missed the opportunity to move to within a point of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North leaders Mossley after suffering a 4-1 trouncing by play-off chasing neighbours Burscough on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of a crowd of 266, Louis Mayers and Niall Cummins gave the Linnets the boost of a 2-0 lead inside the opening 10 minutes.

Warren Bellew replied for Skem four minutes before half-time but Jordan Williams restored Burscough's two-goal cushion on the hour-mark. Liam Caddick wrapped up the scoring and a significant win for the home side on 74 minutes.

In the other game that survived the weather, a close fought clash saw Bamber Bridge come out victorious against a determined Prescot Cables side with goals from Andy Bell after 16 minutes and Ali Waddecar five minutes after half-time.

Liam Hollett reduced the arrears on 38 minutes but a poor challenge on Brig's Chris Marlow 11 minutes from time resulted in James McCulloch receiving a straight red card and there really was no way back for them after that.
