Tuesday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town joined Curzon Ashton as joint leaders of the early Evo-Stik NPL First Division North table on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Wire enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win at Irongate against Bamber Bridge, taking the lead four minutes into the second half through Ben Wharton and then adding a second four minutes later through Ciaran Kilheeney, with Chris Gahgan making it game over a minute from time.

Lancaster City and Salford City maintained their unbeaten starts to the new season, with the Dolly Blues beating Prescot Cables 2-0 at the Giant Axe, courtesy of Neil Marshall after 28 minutes and Danny Mahoney seven minutes from the end.

Salford had to be content with a point from a 2-2 draw after a dramatic end at Cammell Laird. The Ammies scored twice in the last 11 minutes through Wes Bancroft on 79 minutes and a Lee Hodgkinson thunderbolt on 90 minutes - all this after John Atkinson had put the home side ahead on the stroke of half-time. But with time running out, substitute Paul Foy fired home a late equaliser for Lairds.

Ossett Albion and Mossley are still searching for their first win of the season, although Ramsbottom United finally got off the win-less mark in beating Albion 2-1 at Dimple Wells with goals from Lee Gaskell in the third and 15th minutes – Dale Kelly having sandwiched an equaliser for the hosts.

Mossley had to be content with a point from a 1-1 draw at Seel Park against Clitheroe – but will probably settle for that as their equaliser from Danny Broadbent came deep into stoppage time after Chris Dykes had given the Blues a 19th minute lead.

Albion's neighbours Ossett Town enjoyed a comprehensive 5-1 away drubbing of Wakefield in which Town recovered from being a 25th minute Harrison Blakey goal down to win, thanks to Steve Jeff on 34 minutes, Gareth Grant just before half-time, Scott McGrory five minutes after the break and then Kyle Hawthorne and Chris Wood in the last 10 minutes.

Northwich Victoria won 2-1 at home to Kendal Town, whose recent signing Warren Beattie netted past his own keeper to open the scoring after 37 minutes. Another new boy, Vics' Marc Williams, doubled the hosts' lead on 63 minutes, rendering Danny Mitchley's goal five minutes from time as only a consolation for the Cumbrians.

In a game of few chances, Burscough and Farsley FC shared the spoils in a goalless draw at Victoria Park. In fact, the only notable incident came in the 78th minute when Farsley were awarded a penalty after Robbie O'Brien's shot was handled in the box. But he blazed the spot-kick over the bar to waste the chance of stealing the points.
