Bamber Bridge moved into the top five in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Tuesday night after a 2-0 win against Burscough at Irongate, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Both goals came late in the opening period for Brig, with Ali Waddecar giving them a 39th minute lead and Mattie Kay doubling that right on the half-time whistle.

Brig's win moved them above Ramsbottom United, who were held at home by eighth-placed Ossett Town.

Phil Dean put Rammie in front after 13 minutes but Town turned that round to lead 2-1 with goals from Shaun Connor after 27 minutes and Steve Jeff from the penalty spot 10 minutes later. Danny Warrender earned the home side a share of the spoils when he equalised on 63 minutes.

Town's close neighbours Ossett Albion, also managed a draw at Dimple Wells against Prescot Cables, but they need to start getting wins now if they are to avoid relegation. Francis Foy gave Cables a 26th minute lead that Kelvin Mathe eventually cancelled out with 11 minutes to go.

Tuesday`s other game saw Clitheroe edge out visiting New Mills by the odd goal in five.

Alex Ralph gave the Blues a great start with a goal inside four minutes and then Ollie McLean doubled that after 26 minutes. But a minute later the Millers were back in it, thanks to a Danny Grimshaw penalty.

McLean notched his second of the game to extend Clitheroe`s lead eight minutes into the second half before Rhys Nevins pulled a second back for the visitors four minutes from time.
