Tuesday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Northwich Victoria followed Scarborough Athletic`s lead on Monday by maintaining their 100 per cent record in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Boro inflicted a 6-0 drubbing on Harrogate Railway 24 hours before Vics were given a much sterner test by winless Radcliffe Borough at Stainton Park.

The Vics won 2-1 with goals from Iain Howard after 32 minutes and Stuart Cook on 66 minutes – Boro`s consolation coming in stoppage time from Tom Hulme.

Kendal Town are still unbeaten, but dropped their first points after being held 1-1 at Irongate by Bamber Bridge, for whom this was a third draw from their four matches.

Joe Booth’s 42nd minute equaliser cancelled out Jordan Connerton’s ninth minute opener for the Cumbrians.

Newly-promoted Glossop North End, Spennymoor Town and Mossley AFC all remain unbeaten after Tuesday`s round of matches.

Glossop hammered Droylsden 6-0 at Surrey Street with much-travelled Jamie Rainford and David Young both bagging braces to add to singles from Jason Carey and Ashley Stott.

The Moors were almost as dominant, winning 5-1 at Ingfield against Ossett Town with a hat-trick from Nathan Fisher in the second, 17th and 90th minutes sandwiched by goals from Anthony Peacock and Andrew Stephenson – Sanchez Payne replying for Ossett.

Mossley, however, had to be content with one point from their visit to Wincham Park against Witton Albion.

It looked to be heading for a goalless draw and then a Mossley win when Dave Short popped up with an 86th minute deadlock-breaker. But Ben Mills rescued a point for Albion in injury-time.

Goals from Connor Brunt in the very first minute, Rob Bordman on the hour-mark after Tunde Owolabi had equalised, Danny South on 73 minutes and then Adam Jones in stoppage time, gave Ossett Albion their first win of the season at New Mills.

Relegated Trafford also won for the first time in 2015-16 – an in some style – hammering Prescot Cables 8-0 with their new manager Andy Paxton watching and waiting to takeover!

It was a personal triumph for Chris McDonagh on the night. He bagged five of the eight, opening the scoring in the 16th minute and then adding further strikes in the 27th, 52nd, 55th and 90th minutes. In between, Lee Rick, Josh Granite and Matty Kay also found the target.

And Burscough were also first-time winners, beating Warrington Town 4-1 at home, after taking a first-minute lead through Liam Caddick and then doubling that with a Paul Williams penalty just before the half-hour mark.

Ciaran Kilheeney then gave the Wire hope of a comeback when he made it 1-2 with 8 minutes to go. But Wade Joyce immediately added a third for the Linnets and then Chris Tyson made sure with a fourth in time added on.

A 77th minute goal from Leon Henry was enough to secure maximum points for Brighouse Town as they overcame local rivals Farsley Celtic 1-0.

Clitheroe made it three wins from four games after ending Lancaster City`s unbeaten start.

A third minute Scott Bakkor spot-kick gave the Blues a great start, but it wasn`t until five minutes after half-time when Louis Mayers added their second.

Aaron Taylor then popped up with a brace in the 60th and 85th minutes to pull the Dolly Blues back on level terms, only for Lloyd Dean and Scott Harries to score two more for the hosts in the final four minutes.
