Tuesday's First Division North review

By David Watters

Bamber Bridge pulled to within a couple of points of EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North leaders Brighouse Town on Tuesday night after a comfortable 3-0 Irongate win over basement side Burscough, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Two goals just before half-time from Regan Linney and Stuart Vasey put Brig in control. Vasey`s second just past the hour-mark sealed victory.

Lancaster City and Glossop North End are third and fourth respectively after both won at home.

The Dolly Blues saw off improving Prescot Cables 2-0 at the Giant Axe with Jordan Connerton after 27 minutes and then Adam Sumner 15 minutes from time being the targetmen.

The Hillmen edged out mid-table Ossett Town 2-1 with Karl Jones after five minutes and Jamie Rainford on 68 minutes, outgunning Ashley Jackson`s 72nd minute penalty reply.

Glossop went above Tadcaster, who are now fifth after being held to a goalless draw at third-bottom Goole AFC.

Scarborough Athletic moved level on points with neighbouring Tadcaster after Adam Bolder`s goal just after the hour-mark proved enough at second-bottom Ossett Albion.

Elsewhere, Mossley AFC earned Tameside bragging rights after winning 2-1 at Ewen Fields against neighbours Hyde United, whose former Southport player boss Andy Bishop`s 78th minute reply wasn`t enough as Dave Short`s brace on 18 and 42 minutes won it for the Lilywhites.

Ramsbottom United won the Lancashire derby at Colne, courtesy of Darren Green`s 76th minute effort, while three other games ended all-square.

Liam Turner put Colwyn Bay ahead after just two minutes at Llanellian Road against Radcliffe Borough, who levelled through Aboubacar Sonogo after 15 minutes.

Scott Bakkor restored Bay`s lead nine minutes after the break, only for Raul Corriea to equalise 20 minute from time.

Both goals at Clitheroe at home to Trafford came within three minutes of each other midway through the first half – Filose Irakoze for the visitors and Brad Carroll for the hosts.

Droylsden twice had to come back from behind at the Butcher`s Arms against Kendal Town.

First, Sam Bailey`s 54th minute spot-kick was cancelled out by Adam Farrell three minutes later and then Oliver Wood`s 74th minute second for the Mintcakes was levelled eight minutes later by Sean Clancy.
