Tuesday's First Division South action review

EVO-STIK NPL First Division South

Mickleover Sports recovered from last Saturday's shock defeat by second-bottom Kidsgrove Athletic by beating Norton United 1-0 on Tuesday night in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Norton will be disappointed to have been beaten by Anthony Griffith Junior's early eighth minute effort that in the end proved decisive.

The win took third-placed Mickleover to within a couple of points of second-placed Newcastle Town and six behind leaders Sutton Coldfield Town, who have played four games more.

Loughborough Dynamo were also beaten at home last Saturday by Romulus. And they too bounced back – and in some style – hammering bottom-markers Brigg Town 9-0 at the Nanpantan Sports Ground!

The Zebras conceded seven last weekend at Newcastle and have now gone sixteen matches in all competitions without a win.

Recent signing Lavell White gave Dynamo an eighth minute lead but it wasn`t until the half-hour mark that the visitors conceded again when Ashley Way doubled Loughborough's lead. A Matt Langham brace on 40 and 42 minutes made it 4-0 at the break.

Way started the second half rout 11 minutes in with goals following from Lee Attenborough on 62 minutes, Kieron Davies on 63, Leandro Browne two minutes later and then Way again, who completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute. The only surprise was that Dynamo failed to make it double figures in the final 16 minutes!

Kidsgrove maintained their mini-revival under Peter Ward with a 1-1 draw at Bracken Moor against a Stocksbridge Park Steels side who are eighteenth in the table but are nine points clear of second-bottom Grove.

Brandon Cardwell gave the home side a 35th minute lead they held until the break. But just two minutes after the restart, Andy Kinsey equalised and the visitors held on for a point to make it three games without defeat.
