Tuesday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

Newcomers Shaw Lane Aquaforce cut the gap at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table to five points on Tuesday night after they enjoyed a comprehensive win over fellow new boys Basford United, writes Pitchero's Steve W

The battle of the two teams who came up from the Northern Counties East League at the end of last season saw injury-hit Basford, who were looking to move into the top five with a win, instead suffer a 5-0 battering in which Gavin Allott scored the only first half goal in the 23rd minute.

But the hosts, unbeaten at home, scored four times in the second period, starting with Gibraltar international Adam Priestley four minutes after the break and then Oscar Radford on 62 minutes, new signing Jordan Deacey on 77 minutes and then Lee Bennett six minutes from time made it a nap hand.

Coalville Town are three points behind Shaw Lane in third after winning the derby at third-bottom Loughborough Dynamo.

Jake Woolley scored the only opening half goal a minute before the break, but then Aaron Hooton bagged a brace on 66 and 83 minutes, sandwiched by a 73rd minute strike from Alex Troke, with Ben Wallace netting an 86th minute consolation for the hosts.

Bottom-markers Tividale made it five successive draws and are now just two points behind second-bottom Rugby Town after a 1-1 draw at Valley`s neighbours Daventry Town.

Chris Sterling`s good recent run of goalscoring form continued when he shot Tividale in front a minute before half-time. But the recently-returned Nabil Shariff saved Daventry`s blushes with a 62nd minute equaliser.
