Tuesday's First Division South review

By David Watters

Spalding United increased their lead at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table to four points after they won on Tuesday night and second-placed Shaw Lane AFC lost, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Tulips beat managerless Rugby Town 3-1 at the Sir Halley Steward Fields – a result that sees the Valley remain bottom.

It took the hosts 56 minutes to break through with Cenk Acar and, after Jake Woolley had equalised after 72 minutes, Bradley Wells and Rees Longville-Daley sealed the Tulips win in the final six minutes.

Shaw Lane lost 1-0 at neighbouring Stocksbridge Park Steels, whose Joe Lumsden scored the only goal after seven minutes to condemn Shaw Lane to their first defeat.

Third-placed Newcastle Town suffered a 2-0 home defeat to a now fifth-placed Witton Albion, whose Tolani Omotola bagged both goals in the 42nd and 72nd minutes.

Romulus sandwich Newcastle and Witton in fourth but they had to make do with a point from a goalless draw at the Dog & Duck against AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Stamford AFC doubled their win tally for the season to date after a 3-2 success at the Oval against Bedworth United, whose Iyseden Christie and Jordan Archer scored in the 77th and 78th minutes.

Those goals gave them a 2-1 lead after Lee Beeson`s 45th minute opener but goals in the final five minutes from Oliver Brown-Hill and Ryan Robbins won it for the Daniels.

Kieran Walker scored twice for Carlton Town but it wasn`t enough as visiting Gresley FC moved up to seventh after a 3-2 win, thanks to Courtney Meade with two and Pearson Mwanyongo.

Ruben Wiggins-Thomas and Ryan King scored in the final 17 minutes to earn Belper Town their win at Loughborough Dynamo, while James Dance bagged a brace for Chasetown in their 3-0 success at Market Drayton Town – Leon Ashman netting the other.

Alec Denton put Sheffield FC ahead from the spot a minute before half-time in a 2-1 reverse at Lincoln United before a double from Jack McGovern around the hour-mark sealed the home side`s victory.
