Tuesday's First North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

With leaders Curzon Ashton involved in an FA Cup replay, Kendal Town had the opportunity to move to the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Tuesday with victory at Bamber Bridge, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, Brig won 2-1 to move in to the top ten and spoil the party. It had looked good for the Cumbrians when Rob Wilson put them ahead after 43 minutes. But crucially, the Irongate outfit pulled back on level terms right on the stroke of half-time through Curtis Thompson. They then scored what proved to be the winner 12 minutes into the second half, Ali Waddecar netting.

Two others in the top five, Warrington Town and Lancaster City, were also in cup replay action on Tuesday, leaving the chasing pack to close in on them. But only Mossley really took full advantage by winning 3-1 at Moor Lane against neighbours Salford City.

They came back from being an eighth minute Gary Prescott goal behind to win, courtesy of Ryan Marley after 19 minutes, Dougie Carroll eight minutes later and then Charlie Anderson 12 minutes from time.

Northwich Victoria could have gone third with a `home` win over Prescot Cables, but had to be content with a point after Isaac Kusaloka equalised Marc Williams' 75th minute opener for Vics just five minutes later.

Burscough looked to be heading for only their second win to date in the league as they led 3-1 with only eight minutes gone on the clock but they were eventually beaten by the odd goal in seven at Victoria Park by Padiham.

Fans saw a quick-fire start, Liam Caddick bagging a brace for the Linnets in the opening three minutes, only for Ben Allen to reply a minute later. Paul Williams then made it 3-1 with only eight minutes gone. However, Kieron Pickup and Tom Bradley pulled the Storks back on terms with two goals in four minutes before the break and then a much tighter second period produced a winner for Padiham, Ashley Carter scoring the decisive goal nine minutes from the end.

Nathan Cartman bagged a brace in the seventh and 14th minutes to help Harrogate Railway to a good 2-0 win at Clitheroe, while Cammell Laird earned a 3-1 win at Wakefield, with goals from Jamie Henders on the half-hour mar, John Miles on 62 minutes and a Dan O'Brien penalty six minutes from time – Ferdinand Annor had replied for the Bears eight minutes earlier.

And in the other Tuesday game at Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park, Bradley Robinson gave the hosts a 24th minute lead but Tom Brookes' 68th minute leveller for Ramsbottom United ensured Boro stay bottom after the points were shared.
