Tuesday's First North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town were denied the chance to inflict a first defeat of the season on Curzon Ashton when floodlight failure caused the eagerly awaited top of the table clash in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North to be abandoned, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Shaun Reid's men were 2-0 up through Scott Metcalfe and Ciaran Kilheeney with half-an-hour gone when three floodlights on one side of the pitch went out, causing the referee to halt the game. Despite the efforts of an on-call electrician who worked to fix the problem, the game was abandoned by the match officials.

Just 10 minutes later all the lights were back on, but by then Town had already been denied a golden opportunity to move seven points clear and record their 17th game unbeaten.

Ramsbottom United's last two matches saw them wrack-up 4-1 and 7-1 home wins in the Lancs FA Trophy against Padiham and last Saturday against Burscough in the league. And their home goal-fest continued on Tuesday night when they beat seventh-placed Clitheroe 4-1 to move to within four points of their opponents and a place behind them in the table with games in hand.

Grant Spencer, who scored twice against Burscough, gave Rammy a 21st minute lead that Jon Robinson quickly doubled four minutes later. Robinson added his second and the hosts' third seven minutes after that, and although Lloyd Dean reduced the arrears five minutes before the end, Lee Gaskell made it fifteen goals in three home games for Rammy with their fourth in stoppage time.
