Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Bedworth United announced the departure of manager Nick Hawkins on Tuesday night.

Former Nottingham Forest player Hawkins, pictured, left the First Division South’s Greenbacks by ‘mutual consent in the best interest of all parties’ after talks with Chairman Peter Randle followed a meeting of the Bedworth United Board on Monday.

Hawkins, 28, moved into management at Nostell Miners Welfare and replaced Ady Fuller at the end of September after arriving from First Division South rivals Eastwood Town where he’d been joint manager alongside Chris Shaw at Coronation Park. He leaves the Oval Ground with the Greenbacks propping up the table and on a run of seven straight league defeats, the latest a 6-2 reverse at Belper Town on Saturday.

In the statement confirming his exit, the Greenbacks announced that defender Gavin Hurren and midfielder Russell Peel had agreed to take charge of Saturday’s crucial home game against fellow strugglers Brigg Town as the hunt to recruit a new manager gets underway.

The six pointer is set to be the battle of the caretakers after Mick Gray resigned as Zebras manager on Tuesday night within hours of the departure of Hawkins. Town have also turned to senior players with Michael Jacklin, Scott Hellewell and Paul Grimes in temporary charge.
