Tuesday's First North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Lower mid-table Ossett Town ended promotion hunting Curzon Ashton’s unbeaten record in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory at Ingfield, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ossett recently endured a four-match losing run in the league which saw them plummet as low as eighteenth in the table. But two Jimmy Eyles goals in the 36th and 55th minutes put Town on their way to a memorable victory which lifts them to fourteenth in the table. Jonathan Hunt pulled a goal back for Curzon on the hour-mark, but Town were able to hold onto the precious lead.

Tuesday's other game saw Jim Gannon's first game in charge of Northwich Victoria end in a comfortable 4-0 victory against Radcliffe Borough at Flixton's Valley Road.

Third-bottom Boro held Vics to 0-0 at half-time but Josh Amis broke the deadlock to give the home side the lead just a couple of minutes after the break. An own goal from former Vics' favourite Chris Thompson doubled the hosts' lead nine minutes later and then recent signing Kevin Leadbetter added a third on 76 minutes. Chris Smalley made it 4-0 less than two minutes after that to complete a good night's work for new Vics manager Gannon that lifted his new charges to tenth spot.
