Evo-Stik NPL First Division North play-offs

Warrington Town's promotion dream is over after Tuesday night's defeat to Bamber Bridge in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North play-off semi-final at the HG Driver Recruitment Stadium, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Impressive right winger Ali Waddecar, a constant menace to the Town defence throughout the game, scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to secure the win for the visitors in front of a crowd of 477.

Waddecar, who tormented David Thompson at left-back for Town, cut in and fired a well struck shot past Josh Ollerenshaw for an invaluable 1-0 lead on 49 minutes.

It was a sad way to end what has been a fantastic season for Town, who finished third in the league table to secure a first ever trip to the divisional play-offs, but it will be Bamber Bridge who go on to face Ramsbottom United after they defeated Darlington in Wednesday night's other semi-final to reach the weekend's final.
