Tuesday's First South action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

Belper Town moved into the top five in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South table on Tuesday night after a 6-2 hammering of mid-table Goole AFC at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

After back-to-back defeats in league and FA Cup, the Nailers were looking for a boost and they certainly got it at Goole. Lee Thompson after 16 minutes and Mark Ward on 33 gave the visitors a 2-0 interval lead and then two goals in quick succession from Simon Harrison, and Ward again on 54 and 59 minutes, made the game safe for Belper.

Shaun Tuton made it a nap hand four minutes after that although the Vikings did spoil Nailers` boss Peter Duffield`s night by scoring twice through Nick Guest and Brice Tiani in the final nine minutes. Belper marksman Jon Froggatt added a sixth to put a smile back on his face and complete a fine night's work for the visitors.

A 32nd minute header from Brendan McDaid following a Danny Brooks set-piece was enough to give Lincoln United a 1-0 away win at Coronation Park against Eastwood Town.

There was less excitement elsewhere as the three other Tuesday games ended in draws. In the first of those, a new-look Bedworth United team scored twice in the last two minutes to earn an away point at Market Drayton Town.

The game seemed to ending for a goalless draw when Market Drayton struck two out-of-the-blue goals in the 75th and 78th minutes from Rob Stevenson and Martyn Davies. Then, in a dramatic fight-back, Aaron Forde pulled a goal back in the 88th minute with a delicate lob and in the last minute substitute David Blenkinsopp equalised from a cross by Josh O'Grady. New Bedworth manager Nick Hawkins had named only six of last Saturday's starting line-up, and brought in five new faces plus three others on the bench.

Bottom-markers Brigg Town picked up a valuable away point in a 1-1 draw at Sheffield FC. Jordan Thewlis' second goal of the season gave the Zebras the lead in the 11th minute but the hosts hit back to equalise through Stuart Ludlam on 33 minuts.

Honours were even at The Scholars too as on-loan Danny Griffiths levelled for Chasetown after 68 minutes after Mark Danks had given visiting Sutton Coldfield Town the lead just four minutes earlier. Former Scholars` favourite Lee Evans also saved a Nick Wellecomme penalty to keep the scores level.
