Tuesday's First South action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

There were only five matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South on Tuesday night but they produced no less than twenty-seven goals between them, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Coalville Town, who had a slow start to the season, are now beginning to hit their straps and moved into third place in the table after a 4-1 win over Rainworth Miners Welfare at Owen Street.

Danny Jenno gave the Ravens a 29th minute lead and then Anthony Carney doubled that lead right on the stroke of half-time. Jack McGovern added Coalville's third immediately after the break and the same player made it three goals in two minutes either side of the interval. Amazingly, the Wrens pulled a goal back just two minutes later but both defences tightened up after that and the hosts ran out 4-1 winners.

Halesowen Town moved into fourth place after a 5-0 drubbing of Gresley FC at The Grove.

Joe Hull opened the Yeltz's account after 22 minutes and two goals in four minutes just after half-time from Ben Haseley virtually killed off the Moatmen. A Mitch Hanson own goal made it 4-0 with 18 minutes to go and Elliott Turner made it a nap hand for the home side three minutes later.

Sheffield FC are sixth now after edging out Newcastle Town 5-3 at the Lyme Valley Stadium.

Andy Gascoigne's penalty gave Club a seventh minute lead that Tim Sanders wiped out, also from the spot, 10 minutes later. Steve Woolley restored the visitors' lead on the half-hour mark and then Zeph Thomas bagged a brace in the 36th and 40th minutes to make it 4-1 at the break.

A rousing team talk at half-time worked almost immediately as Castle pulled two back in the 51st and 55th minutes through Jordan Cole and Sanders respectively. But A Ben Algar goal a couple of minutes from the end made sure of victory for Sheffield.

Sutton Coldfield Town hit Market Drayton Town for six at Coles Lane.

It took half-an-hour for the Royals to get going through Lee Parsons, but goals came at fairly regular intervals in the second half. Mark Danks added a second immediately after the restart and Luke Chapman the third seven minutes later. Gary Hay then took over, completing a hat-trick with goals in the 68th, 80th and 87th minutes.

A brace of goals from Jordan Thewlis after 48 and 66 minutes earned Brigg Town a 2-1 win over Eastwood Town at the Hawthorns.

Tyrone Burton pulled one back for the Badgers four minutes from time but the victory stretches the Zebras unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions and lifts them up to thirteenth place in the table
