NPL Fair Play Awards

No wonder there was no shortage of smiling faces at Skelmersdale United on Saturday, either before or after their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League clash against Blyth Spartans.

Before kick off at the West Lancashire College Stadium, Skem's manager Tommy Lawson and Vice Chairman David Bolderston were presented with the NPL's inaugural Premier Division Fair Play Award.

Pictured collecting the top flight's joint honour for August and September from the NPL's Respect Manager Phil Bradley, the pair were still smiling at full time after a 4-3 victory that set them on the way to claiming the league's top spot this week following Tuesday night's 3-2 win at home to Ilkeston.

Promoted Skem came out on top in the monthly behaviour stakes after picking up just four yellow cards in 10 fixtures, giving Lawson's team an average of just 0.40 disciplinary points.

While the league leaders took the Premier Division's laurels, Lancaster City and Eastwood Town were named as the best behaved sides for the opening months of the campaign after topping their respective divisional fair play tables.

First Division North winners City also collected their honour on Saturday from League Representative John Beaumont before kicking off against Salford City at the Giant Axe. Manager Darren Peacock's men head their divisional table with a disciplinary average of 0.88 for their record of seven yellows from eight outings.

At Eastwood Town's Coronation Park on Saturday, League Representative Mark Ogley was on hand to present the First Division South's Badgers with their award before they took on Coalville Town. New Eastwood manager Gary Hayward saw his side top the table with a disciplinary average of 0.56 for their single dismissal and two yellows since the opening day of the campaign.
