Tuesday's First South play-off semi-final review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South play-offs

In the regular season, Coalville Town finished second in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South table, just two points adrift of champions Halesowen Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Despite that, the Ravens won`t be joining the Yeltz in the Premier Division next season after Mickleover Sports, who ended up sixteen points behind the Leicestershire outfit in fifth spot, survived a late comeback to win their play-off semi-final at Owen Street on Tuesday night.

It was Mickelover who took the lead in the 20th minute when Simeon Oshoboke drilled a low shot into the back of the net.

Sports held on to their advantage until the break, despite Coalville, who scored 101 goals in the campaign just ended, having several opportunities and a loud penalty appeal turned down.

The visitors doubled their lead three minutes into the second half when a Sean Kinsella cross was deflected into his own net by Liam Kay.

Mickleover looked to have secured a comfortable passage into the final with 20 minutes remaining when former Burton Albion stalwart Aaron Webster headed in a corner to make it 3-0.

But the 516 crowd saw the Ravens pour forward in the last few minutes looking to get something from the game, and they were rewarded with four minutes to go when the unfortunate Nico Degirolamo beat his own keeper to reduce the deficit to two.

And two minutes into injury-time Ben Saunders fired in Coalville's second from just outside the area but, despite a good deal of panic, Mickleover held on to secure victory.
