Tuesday's North Division action review

By David Watters

South Shields returned to the top of the EVO-STIK League North table on Tuesday night following a 5-0 win against Ossett Town, while overnight leaders Hyde United were held to a 1-1 draw by fourth-placed Bamber Bridge, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It proved a comfortable night for Shields at Mariners Park in front of a crowd of 976 once Dillon Morse had given them a 15th minute lead.

Robbie Briggs doubled that after 28 minutes and then just past the hour-mark, Gavin Cogden and then Julio Arca scored quick goals to make it 4-0. A Briggs penalty two minutes later made it a nap hand for Shields.

Tyrone Gay gave Hyde a 20th minute lead at Irongate but Brad Carsley`s equaliser just shy of the hour-mark eventually earned Brig a share of the points.

Scarborough Athletic sandwich Hyde and Bamber Bridge in third after beating Droylsden 2-0 at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

A crowd of 646 saw the teams turn round goalless but James Walshaw gave Boro the lead 11 minutes after the restart before a Michael Coulson spot-kick five minutes from time ensured victory for the hosts.

Colwyn Bay moved to within four points of sixth-placed Trafford with three games in hand after a 2-1 win at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against Ramsbottom United.

And Bay had to come back from being a fourth minute Jamie Rother goal down to win, thanks to Danny Bartle after 27 minutes and Gareth Grant just three minutes later.

Colne are level on points with Bay in eighth, having played a game more, and could have done without dropping two home points to fourth-bottom Mossley AFC.

Matt Morgan gave Colne an 18th minute lead that Mason Duffy cancelled out four minutes after half-time.

Elsewhere, Ossett Albion made it four successive wins as they achieved a 2-1 success at Stainton Park against Radcliffe FC.

Harrogate Town loanee Marcus Day opened Albion's account after 10 minutes and the experienced Aidan Chippendale doubled their lead 11 minutes later. Louis Mayers reduced the deficit on 66 minutes but Boro weren`t able to find a leveller.

Atherton Collieries have lost just once in fourteen games now after a 1-0 success at Parkside against Kendal Town, courtesy of an 82nd minute Jordan Cover goal.
