Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

North Ferriby United missed the opportunity to stretch their lead further at the top of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division table after they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium by FC United of Manchester, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In front of Ferriby's best crowd of the season to date – 538 – it was FC United who went ahead after 38 minutes with a goal by Jerome Wright. But that lead lasted barely four minutes as Russell Fry equalised.

The high-flying hosts were unable to find a winner though and are now six points clear of Marine, who moved into second spot after beating Stafford Rangers 3-1 late on at the Arriva Stadium.

Alan Burton broke the deadlock by putting the Mariners in front two minutes before the break. Danny Quinn pulled Rangers back on level terms six minutes into the second half and a draw looked on the cards. However, a brace from striker Nick Rogan in the final five minutes sealed victory for the Mariners.

Hednesford Town are level on twenty-four points with Marine after edging out the side who started the evening in third place, Witton Albion.

But that looked highly unlikely until right at the death as the Pitmen trailed to a goal from Ashley Stott in the 80th minute as the game entered injury-time. Then Sean O'Connor grabbed what looked like a point for the home side and seconds later Elliott Durrell won it for the hosts from the penalty spot.

Chorley, who hammered Frickley Athletic 5-1 last Saturday, couldn't find one goal at Causeway Lane against Matlock Town, who made it back-to-back wins, courtesy of Massiah McDonald's 36th minute effort.

Meanwhile, ten-man Frickley ground out a vital win at home to fellow strugglers Eastwood Town, thanks to a 90th minute own goal from Romaine Graham.

The game was a scrappy affair and Frickley had Jimmy Ghaichem sent-off for two yellow cards in the 75th minute – the second for dissent. But the Blues won it when Tom Woodhead's long clearance saw Graham slice a volley over his own keeper and into the net from 25 yards.

The other game on Tuesday saw Kendal Town and Ashton United share a 2-2 draw in Cumbria.

This was yet another game that saw late drama in which Alex Taylor gave the home side the lead just before half-time. Aaron Burns levelled in the 67th minute, only for Sefton Gonzales to restore Kendal's lead virtually straight from the restart.

And they held that lead until time added on at the end of the game when Burns kept his cool to equalise from the spot.
