Tuesday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Mossley increased their lead at the top of the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North table to six points with a comfortable six-goal mauling of Wakefield on Tuesday night at the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Stadium, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It was virtually all over by the 22nd minute as the Lilywhites led 3-0 with goals from Sam Hind after 10 minutes, Kayde Coppin six minutes later and then Adam Mather.

Almost immediately after half-time a David Pickering own goal made it 4-0 to Mossley, with Hind and then Jason Gorton adding two more in quick succession – and there was still almost 40 minutes left to play!

Mossley took their foot off the pedal somewhat after that, however, allowing Chris Hutchings an 87th minute consolation. But with both Skelmersdale United and Clitheroe dropping points, it turned out to be a very happy journey back across the Pennines for Mossley.

Skem were held to a 3-3 draw by New Mills, who fought back three under new manager Roy Soule.

The home side took an 11th minute lead through Josh Hine, only for Steve Moore to peg that back eight minutes before the break. Antony Hickey restored Skem's lead on the hour-mark, which Moore levelled again less than a minute later. Kenny Strickland gave the home side the lead for a third time on 74 minutes, but the battling Millers earned a share of the spoils through Luke Horrocks five minutes later.

Clitheroe were held to a 1-1 draw at Moor Lane by Salford City, whose Nathan McDonald gave them a 35th minute lead. The Blues equalised within three minutes through Alex Johnson, but were unable to find a winner.

Farsley FC also had to be content with one point at Throstle Nest against Curzon Ashton, who led through Sam Walker's 41st minute effort going into the final minute of the game when Sam Robinson rescued Farsley with an equaliser.

Ramsbottom United moved into fifth place – just a point adrift of Farsley – after winning 2-0 at struggling Harrogate Railway Athletic. Gary Stopforth put Rammy in front after 12 minutes and a Lee Gaskell effort three minutes into the second half sealed the points for the visitors.

Hot-shots Trafford were held to a surprise goalless draw at home by Burscough, and it was a similar story at Irongate between Bamber Bridge and Cammell Laird.

Ossett Albion made hard work of it but eventually managed to grind out a 4-2 win at bottom-markers Garforth Town.

A goal from Tom Corner after just three minutes was overturned by a Fernando Moke brace in the 17th and 41st minute. But Kurtis Noble equalised on 68 minutes and Albion went on to net two more through Marc Thompson five minutes from time and a last minute penalty from Joe Fox.

Warrington Town picked up all three points at the expense of Prescot Cables at the Abacus Solicitors Community Stadium.

Former Cables player Michael Reid put Warrington 1-0 up after he picked the ball up just inside the Prescot half and beat three players to fire home from 20 yards after just six minutes. Four minutes later Ashley Ruane doubled the Yellows' advantage after defender James McCarten set him up and the game finished 2-0.

Second-bottom Goole AFC earned only their second win of the season to date by securing a 2-0 success at Ossett Town. Bill Law was the Vikings' hero, bagging a brace in the 60th and 88th minutes.

The game between Lancaster City and Radcliffe Borough at the Giant Axe finished all-square at 2-2.

Tom Kilifin put the Dolly Blues in front after 12 minutes and Odion Karembo levelled on 23 minutes. That looked like being it until five minutes from time when Shaun Connor scored what looked like being the winner for Boro, only for Dave Swarbrick to pop up with a stoppage time equaliser for the home side.
