Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division

Three of the four scheduled matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division took place on Tuesday night with only Blyth Spartans versus Kendal Town falling foul of the weather and being postponed, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And it was a good night for Buxton and Rushall Olympic in their quest for play-off places.

Buxton kept up their good away record at FC United of Manchester with a 2-1 victory to keep their own dreams alive and severely dent those of the hosts. In front of a crowd of 1,501 at Bower Fold, David Haggerty gave the Bucks a great start with the opening goal inside two minutes. Matt Wolfenden equalised six minutes before half-time, but Neil Stevens restored the visitors' advantage on 58 minutes.

Victory moves Buxton to within a point of FC United and Marine, who have played four more matches and were beaten 2-0 at Dales Lane by a Rushall side who are fourth, level on points with third-placed Witton Albion.

Josh Craddock broke the deadlock by giving the Pics the lead 15 minutes from time with a stunner from fully 40 yards. And a minute from the end of normal time, Dave Walker netted his twenty-first goal of the season from much closer in to make it 2-0 and game over.

The other game concerned the opposite end of the table where virtually doomed Eastwood Town were beaten 1-0 at Coronation Park by a Frickley Athletic side who are now seventeenth. James Burgess came off the substitutes' bench to score an 83rd minute winner for the Blues in a scrappy game.
