Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

Worksop Town and FC United of Manchester both boosted their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division title hopes with victories on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Worksop travelled to mid-table Trafford looking for the points that would take them into second spot.

And they were ahead through Shane Clarke after 26 minutes, but weren`t able to add to that until the final five minutes when Leon Mettam made sure of the spoils.

Worksop are now just two points behind leaders Chorley, although they have played a game more.

FC United entertained a Stafford Rangers side looking doomed to dropping out of the division. And a crowd of 1,589 saw a convincing 4-0 win at Gigg Lane to move the Reds into third place, a point behind Worksop with a game in hand.

Two goals in each half, from Tom Greaves after just seven minutes and Charlie Raglan in first half injury-time, and then Greaves again on the hour-mark and Greg Daniels in the 74th minute, gave the hosts all three points.

Skelmersdale United, who were title favourites a few short weeks back, suffered a third successive defeat and slipped to fifth in the table.

Relegation-threatened Witton Albion arrived at the West Lancashire College Stadium in fourth-bottom spot, but ended the evening out of the relegation zone.

Michael Powell gave Albion the boost of an early second minute lead and then Alex Titchiner doubled their advantage after 35 minutes. Scott Bakkor then made sure the points went to Cheshire with a third goal 13 minutes from time, with Sean Miller netting an 81st minute consolation for Skem.

Stamford AFC greatly boosted their bid to stay in the division with a 1-0 win against Matlock Town at Kettering Road.

The all-important goal came from Ryan Robbins after 21 minutes and lifted the Daniels into sixteenth place in the table, five points clear of now fourth-bottom Frickley Athletic.

Rushall Olympic stayed in touch with the play-off race after a valuable point from a goalless draw at the Turnbull Ground against Whitby Town. The Pics are ten points behind fifth-placed Skem but have two games in hand.
