Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

There were four matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Tuesday night, with the focus being on the fight to stay in the division, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Salford City suffered a fourth defeat in five matches and the second successive loss to bottom two opposition with a 2-0 defeat at second-bottom Wakefield.

Highly-rated Rob Bordman proved once more to be Wakefield's hero, bagging a brace in the 12th and 37th minutes to move the Lions to within a point of Radcliffe Borough, who could only draw at Stainton Park against another of the strugglers, Prescot Cables.

Chris Thompson gave Boro a 37th minute lead that Lloyd Dean eventually cancelled out after 63 minutes. And then it looked as though Cables had won it when Isaac Kusaloka grabbed an 84th minute second, only for Boro to go virtually straight up the opposite end to level through Sam Grimshaw.

Padiham remain in trouble, now four points in front of Wakefield, after losing 2-1 at Parkside to mid-table Kendal Town.

Maison McGeechan gave the Cumbrians an early eighth minute lead that Danny Boyle cancelled out after 39 minutes. But Danny Mitchley`s goal five minutes after half-time eventually proved to be the winner for the Mintcakes.

Tuesday's other game saw Northwich Victoria beat Harrogate Railway Athletic 1-0 in Flixton, courtesy of a Marc Joseph goal after 28 minutes.

* Warrington Town ended a run of four games without a win on Monday night with a 3-2 triumph at New Mills.

After three consecutive goalless draws, it was a welcome return to the goals for Shaun Reid's men, and a win that puts the pressure on Darlington 1883 in the race for second place - one that could be crucial come the play-offs.
