Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Buxton returned to the top of the EVO-STIK League's Premier Division table after a hard-fought victory against the team who arrived at Silverlands on top spot, Curzon Ashton, writes Pitcheros Steve Whitney.

A crowd of 411 saw Neil Stevens give the Bucks an early ninth minute lead, one that Mark Reed eventually doubled just before the hour-mark. Niall Cummins reduced the arrears with 19 minutes remaining but the home side held firm to return to the summit.

Skelmersdale United moved above Curzon into second spot after beating bottom-of-the-table Belper Town 2-1 at the West Lancs College Stadium.

But they had to come back from being a goal down to win after Ian Ross had broken the deadlock to put the Nailers ahead after 51 minutes. Thirteen minutes from time Ross scored his second – but sadly for him it was at the wrong end. And three minutes later Jack Owen won it for Skem.

Managerless Witton Albion`s woes continue after being beaten 2-1 at Wincham Park by Frickley Athletic.

It started well enough for Albion, who lost a second manager of the season at the weekend when Anthony Sheehan quit following last Saturday`s 5-1 hammering by Belper, when Danny Andrews gave them a seventh minute lead. But seven minutes later Joel Barnett pulled the Blues back on level terms from the spot and a draw looked on the cards until Danny South pounced in the final minute of normal time to win it for the visitors.
