Buxton returned to the top of the EVO-STIK League's Premier Division table after a 3-1 win at Stamford AFC on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The first half was a cagey affair with Liam Hardy going closest to scoring for the Bucks when he hit the bar. Greg Young gave Buxton the lead on 49 minutes when he headed home but Ryan Robbins levelled for Stamford eight minutes later. Hardy put the Bucks back in front on 63 minutes, with his eleventh goal of the season, and Shaun Tuton wrapped up the points in injury-time when he capitalised on a defensive error.

Fourth-placed Ilkeston FC missed the opportunity to put more daylight between them and the chasing pack after going down to a 2-1 defeat at Barwell.

It started well enough for the Robins when Che Adams gave them an 11th minute lead. However, just five minutes later Liam Castle equalised from the penalty spot. And the Canaries won it when a 55th minute, a well-placed header by Luke Barlone earning them a hard fought win.

Rushall Olympic moved level on points with Ilkeston after beating bottom-markers Belper Town 2-1 at Dales Lane.

Aaron Williams gave the Pics a 12th minute lead that Bruno Holden cancelled out in the 26th minute. But Williams` second 8 minutes before half-time proved enough for the home side.

Second-bottom and now managerless Matlock Town were also beaten by the odd goal in three at The Meres by Grantham Town.

Jamil Yates gave the Gladiators a 29th minute lead that lasted until the 67th minute when Michael Towey levelled for the Gingerbreads. And 10 minutes later Connor Johnson won it for the hosts.

Nantwich Town also won by the same scoreline at the Weaver Stadium against third-bottom Marine AFC.

As at Grantham, it was the visitors who led, courtesy of a 23rd minute Danny Whitehall goal. But an Adam Jones brace after 29 and then 88 minutes turned the game in the Dabbers favour.

The game between Halesowen Town and King`s Lynn Town ended all-square at one apiece. Michael Frew`s 19th minute goal for Lynn looked like being enough until Chris Lait popped up with the Yeltz`s equaliser with less than three minutes to go.
