Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Blyth Spartans returned to the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division table on Tuesday night after they beat Hyde United and overnight leaders Darlington 1883 were held to a draw at Skelmersdale, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A crowd of 517 at Croft Park saw Robbie Dale give Spartans a 22nd minute lead that Sean Reid doubled nine minutes later before Dan Maguire made sure of the points in the 68th minute.

At Stormy Corner, it didn`t look good for the visiting Quakers as Skem led through Alan Burton`s 43rd minute opener going into stoppage time at the end of the game. But up popped Graeme Armstrong to salvage a valuable point for Darlington.

Nantwich Town sandwich the North East sides in second place after hammering still win-less and now managerless bottom-markers Ramsbottom United 7-1 at the Weaver Stadium.

Rammy found themselves a goal down inside the opening minute through Matty Kosylo and two-down after 11 minutes with Kosylo`s second. Lewis Short added a third six minutes before the break and two minutes into the second period Josh Hancock made it 4-0.

Kosylo completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot three minutes after that before Elliot Osborne repeated that feat eight minutes later after taking over spot-kick duties. Then, after Sam Grimshaw had netted a 74th minute consolation for the visitors, Steve Jones rounded things off with the Dabbers` seventh.

Buxton and Salford City complete the top five and they both won home games on Tuesday.

The Bucks saw off Colwyn Bay 2-0 at Silverlands, courtesy of a Liam Hardy spot-kick two minutes after half-time and then Ali Taylor five minutes later, while the Ammies beat Halesowen Town 3-1 at Moor Lane.

Ritchie Allen gave the hosts a great start with the opener inside three minutes. The former Fleetwood Town favourite made it 2-0 after 37 minutes and, after Danny Bragoli had reduced the deficit in the 64th minute, Joe Mwasile made it game over with the Ammies` third in injury-time.

Ashton United beat in-form Frickley Athletic 2-0 at Hurst Cross, despite having Aaron Burns harshly sent-off in the 18th minute.

Adam Morning put the home side ahead on the half-hour mark. And Matthew Chadwick sealed the points for Ashton deep into stoppage time.

Mickleover Sports also won at home by the same scoreline against Matlock Town.

Former Gladiator Massiah McDonald broke the deadlock to give Sports the lead four minutes into the second period. And right at the end of the game Anthony Dwyer made sure the points stayed at home.

Second-bottom Stamford AFC came back from 3-1 down to earn a share of the spoils at the Zeeco Arena against Sutton Coldfield Town, who dropped to sixth place as a consequence.

Dan O`Callaghan gave the visiting Royals an 11th minute lead that Serigne Diop doubled five minutes later.

Dan Clements reduced the arrears three minutes after that, only for Malcolm Melvin on 27 minutes to send Sutton Coldfield into the break 3-1 up.

But Jordan Smith pulled a second back for the Daniels on 71 minutes and new boss Andrew Wilson saw his team back on level terms with 10 minutes to play, thanks to Richard Jones.
