Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Darlington 1883 moved to the top of the EVIO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division table on Tuesday night after winning 2-1 at Hurst Cross against Ashton United, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It`s been a bad few days for Ashton, who were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup by lower league AFC Rushden & Diamonds last Saturday, but they started this one well enough when Martin Pilkington gave them a 35th minute lead.

But the Quakers equalised eight minutes into the second period through Nathan Cartman and then won it in time added on at the end from Graeme Armstrong.

Nantwich Town could have gone second had they managed to beat Matlock Town at the Weaver Stadium. Instead, the Dabbers threw away an early two-goal lead to be pegged back to a 2-2 draw.

Matty Bell after five minutes and then Liam Shotton less than a minute later gave Nantwich a great start.

But the Gladiators battled back and were level then they scored twice in three minutes, Niall McManus and then Danny Holland finding the net.

Barwell warmed up for their FA Cup tie against AFC Rushden & Diamonds with a 6-0 hammering of Halesowen Town at Kirkby Road.

Iyseden Christie gave the Yellows a 12th minute lead and then Anthony Carney completed a hat-trick before half-time with goals in the 27th, 37th and 44th minutes.

Liam Kay made it a nap hand just five minutes after the break and Christie bagged his second five minutes later. The Yeltz did well to stem the tide after that, with no more concessions in the remaining 35 minutes.

Managerless Colwyn Bay stunned Skelmersdale United to win by the odd goal in seven at Stormy Corner to move level with them on sixteen points.

John Marsden put Bay ahead after 29 minutes, only for Skem to pull back level within two minutes through Kenny Strickland. Three minutes after half-time Zac Corbett restored Bay`s lead and Marsden extended it with his second after 69 minutes.

But Chris Almond reduced the deficit to just one 2 minutes later, only for Corbett to make it 4-2 less than two minutes after that. Rob McIntosh pulled a third back for Tommy Lawson`s side with 5 minutes to go, but they were unable to find a leveller.

Grantham Town won for only the second time this season when they came from a goal down to beat Mickleover Sports 3-2.

Massiah McDonald gave the hosts an early eighth minute lead. Rhys Lewis levelled on 37 minutes before a Dwayne Wiley own goal put the Gingerbreads in front just before half-time.

Mickleover levelled it up through Andy Dales five minutes after the break but 10 minutes from time Michael Emmott cut in from the wing and scored the winner for Grantham.

Grantham`s neighbours Stamford AFC, picked up only their ninth point of the season after drawing 1-1 at the Zeeco Arena with Ilkeston FC.

Recent signing Nabil Shariff gave the Daniels a 16th minute lead that Daniel Udoh cancelled out six minutes before half-time.
