Turf teams on snow patrol ... again!

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK League's groundsmen and women were on snow patrol again ahead of Tuesday night's busy programme of league and cup action.

The turf team at Matlock Town were clearing snow from the pitch at the DCJ Group Insurance Arena, pictured, to ensure their top flight clash with Warrington Town could go ahead after Britain was hit by the return of the arctic weather.

Before their match went ahead, Marine fans arriving for their EVO-STIK League Premier Division clash with Sutton Coldfield Town found snow falling at Coles Lane as the wintry weather headed south during the day.

EVO-STIK League North leaders South Shields were one of the first victims of the icy blast at lunchtime when match officials made an early call to postpone their fixture with Ossett Town with snow blanketing Mariners Park following heavy falls in the North East.

Elsewhere, other victims of the wet and freezing conditions included the Manchester Premier Cup semi-final between Droylsden and Trafford at the Butcher's Arms, the EVO-STIK League South clash between Spalding United and Frickley Athletic and Carlton Town's Nottinghamshire Senior Cup semi-final at Dunkirk FC.

Altrincham's Moss Lane was in pristine condition for the arrival of Ashton United at the home of the leaders, pictured, as the majority of Tuesday night's programme went ahead thanks to ground staff and fans volunteering to clear snow and ice.
