TV favourites at fundraising fixture

Soap stars and football mad celebrities are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for a children's unit at Kidsgrove Athletic's Seddon Stadium on Sunday week.

Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emmerdale Farm, Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road will all be represented on April 21 after the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club agreed to host All Star Charity Eleven’s latest fundraiser for the Neonatal Unit at Crewe's Leighton Hospital.

Admission is just £2 for the 2pm kick off and organisers are hoping the celebrity line-up will attract a big crowd to their First Division North ground in aid of the doctors and nurses caring for nearly 300 babies every year in South Cheshire.

In October 2012, the family of a former nurse donated £1.5m to build a new Neonatal Unit at the hospital and the charity hopes to help towards the cost of life-saving equipment including intensive care and high dependency cots. VIP tickets for a pre match meal and a chance to meet the teams afterwards are now on sale and priced at £20.

Set up by charity fundraiser Barry Donegan more than twenty years ago, All Star Charity Eleven has raised nearly £500,000 for local charities and good causes in Cheshire who struggle to find funding. Over the years, teams of local businessmen, former professional and semi-professional footballers, TV celebrities, musicians and actors have helped support a diverse range of good causes from a women's refuge in Crewe to a local special need school that needed help building a new sports hall.
