Two in and two out at Wrens

Rainworth Miners Welfare manager Kevin Gee has been busy in the transfer market again with two defenders arriving at Kirklington Road and two on their way out.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South club announced on Tuesday that Lee Cooksey had returned to rivals Sheffield while Wrens player Adam Burton has gone on loan to Shirebrook Town to gain match fitness.

Sam Purcicoe, comes in on a month’s loan from Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Grantham Town along with central defender Dean Whiley who's switched from Quorn.

Gee, pictured, paid tribute to the departing Cooskey and explained the reasoning behind his latest business. He said: "I got a call from Sheffield about Cooksey there were too many positives for him not to make the move. He's been a terrific servant for the club so he goes with our blessing, and everyone at the club wishes him well.

"Adam will go out on loan for a month to Shirebrook. He was superb for me last season but this year it just hasn't happened for him for one reason or another. I believe he will still play at this level, and he knows the door is still open to him with us. He needs now to kick on in terms of his development if he wants to be a centre half at this level. He can't work on that if he's not playing, so the temporary change of scenery will do him good.

"In respect of the two additions, I'm pleased to get both on board. Sam played virtually every game with Grantham when they got promoted from our division last year. He is a player who can fill a number of positions, and that versatility is very important to a club like ours with a small squad. He is still very much a part of the Grantham set up, but with a bigger squad at the Premier club and the fact that he lives locally, it gives him an opportunity to play some games and keep his fitness levels up.

"Dean is another who we have tracked during the season but unfortunately with work commitments plus the recent birth of his child, he hasn't had chance to get back into things since leaving Quorn. However, with Dean being local to us and of course good friends with a number of our squad, I'm hopeful that once his work load eases a little he maybe able to start training with us and get involved in the latter stages of the season."
