Victory spurs promotion dream

Whitby Town

Whitby Town player-manager Darren Williams has paid tribute to striker Craig Farrell and his hard-working team-mates after the Blues secured their first double of the season with a 2-1 win over Worksop, writes Andrew Snaith.

The 30-year-old hotshot has been Williams' find of the season since signing from Blyth Spartans and netted both goals in Saturday's Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division victory over the Tigers.

Williams said: "We knew what Craig was all about and what his attributes were. I'm over the moon for him to get two goals, which were fantastic finishes. Himself and Graeme [Armstrong] are linking up really well, but the work-rate was tremendous, throughout the team.

"It was a heavy pitch, a cold and windy day and, as a player, you can go into games a bit half-hearted, but the lads just got on and dealt with the situation. It was pleasing to see us keep that work-rate up for 90 minutes."

Despite laying in 15th spot in the table, Williams believes the win can spur his side on to secure a play-off spot over the coming months. He added: "There's an opportunity to push on for the play-offs, the players want to strive for that and the confidence is building."
