Vikings sail past new landmark

By David Watters

Goole AFC

Goole AFC passed a new milestone in the club's short history on Saturday when the Vikings played their 750th game.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Divsion North outfit would've wanted to mark the landmark event with a better result as they went down to a 2-0 home defeat to Ramsbottom United.

The Vikings started out in the Central Midlands League in August 1997. Three successive promotions took Goole to the North East Counties Premier Division before it took them another five seasons to gain promotion to the Evo-Stik NPL.

Their first and most successful manager to date is John Reed who left for Harrogate Town in November 2000 before returning in July this year. Of the 749 games they'd played before Saturday their record read - won 352, drawn 144 and lost 253. Goals for 1391 against 1130.
